My needs overwhelm me
And wants overshadow me
My thoughts never stay in one place

And distractions has my gaze

My soul yearns for you everyday
But my mind seems to delay

I tried my best
But it wasn’t good enough
You don’t want a performance

If you don’t show me
I’ll end up a juicy prey
To my flesh and my enemies

Religion wants a hold on me
Man’s validation seems appealing
What you want is fellowship

Help me to be consistent
I desire to actively dwell
But activities seem to get the best of me

When I cannot utter words
Would you recognize these pieces?
Am I doing the right thing?
Teach me how to pray.
I’ll open my mouth
Please fill it up
Help me to pray your will
Teach me how to pray.
Do you care about my needs?
Am I allowed to talk freely?
Can I really say my mind?

Will you get mad at me?
Will you answer me ?
When I’m confused and uncertain

When I procrastinate
Do you get angry?
When I doubt — will you give up on me?

Sometimes it feels like a complex thing
Other times is beautiful experience
Let your spirit lead me &

When I don’t keep to time
And fall asleep during prayer
Does that irritate You?
Teach me how to pray.
When I don’t get answers
Am I praying right?
Help my heart to obey

What will you have me do?
Will you speak to me again?
Help me to hear you sensitively & clearly

If you don’t, I can’t help but freestyle
Or at best imitate others
Religion is another option, but please
Teach me how to pray.
If Prayer is communication with You
Tell me your Love language.
You know I have limited resources

Your word says to pray without ceasing
My prayer life be having seizures
If you don’t help me I cannot be helped

How do you want to be loved?
In spirit & in truth
Help me be truthfully aligned to your spirit
Teach me how to pray.
Until it becomes a part of me
And excuse no longer have any say
And until my only gaze is You
Teach me how to pray.
My father, dwelling in the Heavens
Praises, Honor & Glory to your name
Let you’re Kingdom come
Teach me how to pray.
Let your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven
Give me my daily needs
Forgive me as I learn and forgive others

Lead me not into temptation
Deliver me from all evil
